| The North-West of La Palma is popular with nature lovers, walkers and people looking for the peace and quiet of the countryside. Puntagorda is village with around 1900 inhabitants. The higher areas are rich in pine forests whilst below the village is an agricultural area leading to the cliffs which are an area of outstanding natural beauty. In the Summer months it is possible to swim in a small natural pool, reachable by a good stairway of more than 400 steps. Puntagorda has a large number of well marked footpaths. The village is small and friendly and has 3 restaurants. several bars, 2 supermarkets, several shops, banks, dispensing chemist and a medical centre. In the weekend there is a farmers market. In and around the village are well equipped holiday homes, many are renovated traditional Canary cottages with views and privacy. The weather in the north-west of La Palma generally very sunny and warm. In the winter the temperature at night drops to around 12C (occasionally 8C), but all our houses have adequate heating. During the winter days the sun brings the temperature up to around 20C. There can be short periods of cloud and rain. In the Summer the nights are warm and the days sunny and hot with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees. In january and february the thousands of almond trees in the area are full of blossom creating a fairy-tale atmosphere. Then its the turn of the orange trees to be a feast for thr eyes and nose. Puntagorda is een ideal location for a visit to the Roque de los Muchachos (highest point), the beautiful North of La Palma with various tiny old villages and the caves where the Guanches lived and the wall engravings of La Zarza. |

 From January until the end of February the thousands of almond trees on La Palma are in blossom.The main almond areas are Puntagorda, Las Tricias and Tijarafe. | Many people think that La Palma is only for winter-sun holidays. Nothing could be further from the truth. Summertime is an excellent time to visit La Palma. The temperatures are pleasantly warm and not too hot. La Palma does not have the unbearable summer heat waves typical of any Mediterranean areas. Good weather, it rarely rains and the temperatures are between 22C and 30C In the summer months there are village festivals and other activities .. all outside of course. | ||

| La Palma is an excellent location for a winter-sun holiday, especially on the western side of the island. There the temperatures are almost always pleasantly warm and not too hot. Away from the coast the evenings may be cool. In winter the conditions are good for walking the many hundreds of miles of officially marked walking paths. Nature is at its greenest and there are always flowers in bloom. | ||
